Proposal: KPI Tracker Modernization
Migration of the Excel/VBA KPI Workbook to a Modern Web Application
Contents
1. Executive Summary
MorelandConnect proposes to migrate the existing KPI tracking workbook from its current Excel/VBA form into a modern, web-based application built on Microsoft technologies. The goal of this engagement is to move a business-critical reporting tool off a fragile spreadsheet and onto a stable, maintainable, and extensible platform — without changing the numbers your team relies on every day.
This proposal covers a single, combined scope: a 1:1 replacement of the current workbook plus dynamic KPI and reporting configuration delivered together. The 1:1 portion reproduces all existing functionality so the same inputs produce the same outputs. The dynamic configuration adds the ability for your team to define, modify, and manage reporting criteria directly within the application, rather than having reports hardcoded. We estimate the combined effort at 136 to 220 hours.
The architecture is built to extend cleanly, so the dynamic configuration layer sits naturally on top of the migrated model, and further capabilities — richer analytics and future AI-driven reporting — can be added later without a redesign.
2. Background & Current State
The current KPI tracker is a single Excel workbook driven by VBA. At first glance it appears highly complex — the file contains roughly 2.25 million formula cells — but our analysis shows that figure is misleading. The workbook is actually built from only 149 distinct formulas filled across large grids. The formulas themselves are straightforward (IF / AND / OR logic, with no lookups), and the VBA is largely a single template copied roughly 30 times.
Historical data amounts to approximately 500 rows of values only, which makes it a clean, one-time import rather than an ongoing data-migration effort.
2.1 Defining “1:1”
Because the model runs off the current date, we define a 1:1 migration as
