Request for Proposals Modernization and Enhancement of Farmers Market Technology to Promote Nutrition Incentive Use among SNAP Consumers Background The Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health: Mission and Priorities The mission of the Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health (https://case.edu/swetland) at Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine is to study the complex interplay between environmental determinants and population health outcomes. The Center places special emphasis on community-engaged approaches that address the role of structural racism in creating and sustaining environmental health inequities and seeks to translate these findings into policies, practices, and relationships that promote community and population health equity. Food systems and health equity is a priority research area of the Swetland Center, including research focused on nutrition incentive programming at farmers markets as a strategy to promote healthy food access for people receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Produce Path Information and Development History Produce Path (www.producepath.org) is a web and mobile application with two distinct interfaces: (1) a Customer Portal that allows customers to prepare for a visit to a farmers market by searching for markets near them, creating a grocery list, and reviewing hours, location, services, vendors, inventory, events, notification of posts from market managers in real time, and other important information about the market, and (2) a Manager Portal that allows the people and organizations who manage farmers markets to manage their Customer Portal-facing market profile information and track market performance trends and the use of nutrition incentives. While the Manager Portal provides users in-depth reporting tools and real-time information on market performance and trends, it is not a financial transfer system.
